Once the party decided to pilot the newly acquired Sable Drake should be theirs, they attempted to sail it into port roger with their limited knowledge of the sea, much to Tarkus’ dismay. After a few days sailing and successfully getting lost, the party found themselves beached on a strange island consisting of seemingly one large mountainous rock. Their arrival was marked by a greeting of 5 ogres, which were soon killed by the party (mostly Tarkus).
Korric lead everyone deeper into the mountainside in search of any life on the mountain, where he encountered a cave entrance guarded by a large zombie ogre with a black gemstone in his eye. In the cave behind him lived a coven of sea hags, the sight of which caused Garm to projectile vomit all over the surrounding area. Afterwords he managed to negotiate the trade of maps of the surrounding area along with assistance in de-beaching their ship in exchange for some magical bracers, and nothing else. After another two days journey, they successfully landed their ship in Port Roger, this time being greeted by an entire phalanx of marines. the confusion was quickly cleared up as Captain Jack Greeves of the merchant vessel cleared their name and explained that they weren’t in fact pirates, but had instead slain the pirates previously in possession of the Sable Drake, and saved many of his crewman’s lives. The marine’s let them past and onto the planar cartographers guild, a rowdy place shown to be more of a tavern than any sort of professional guild. While Thacious was busy getting drunk, Garm and Korric made arrangements to have their ship manned by a crew to take them to the continent to the east.
As everyone else was busy, Tarkus found himself at a gambling table full of strangers, playing a game the head of the table called “Poker.” After some amount of time Tarkus suddenly realized that he was alone at the table with the man, who spoke to him softly about his fate and the nature of the cards. As Tarkus bet his hand and lost, the man bid him farewell, and told him not to forget his gun. In a flash, Tarkus was back at the tavern, a greenish metal pepperbox laying on the table in front of him.
With the ship fully crewed and maps to their destination, the party found it easy to pilot to their new destination. With Korric navigating, the party set a course to an island a few weeks away, Tarkus and Thacious taking time to learn this new profession. On the way there the party spotted a tiny island in the distance, shown to be the home of a large sea dragon. Upon landing on the ship, he proceeded to interrogate Korric and Garm on the whereabouts of the Orb of White Dragonkind. Garm managed to dissuade him before the dragon flew off and vanished in the reddening sky, as a ship crewed by the souls of the dead swiftly found itself beside the Sable Drake.
Over the course of the fight, Garm slowly reverted to his natural form, flaming winged cape and all. As the party engaged in combat with the nightmare boat, first two incubus charged Thacious and Korric to attack, getting blindsided by Garm in the process with a critical sword strike, knocking them away and giving his friends some room to breathe. Thacious squared off with an incubus as the Hell Knight Jumped behind him in a sneak attack. Not to be outdone, Tarkus decided to use one of the random caster shells he bought from Handsome Dan, and lucked out with a chain lightning cast on the entire enemy ship.
After Tarkus’ blast, Korric and Garm managed to wipe out some of the demons, shanking and shocking their way through combat, while Thacious was forced to cower in fear in awe of the mighty Hell Knight. Korric dashed about in magical darkness, slashing and exploding the attackers with a white phosphorus grenade while Tarkus cast feeble mind on the Hell Knight, prefenting him from murdering Thacious in his feared state. After some more magic missiles and gnashing teeth, Thacious managed to break free of his fear and raise his fist to the Hell Knight, punching through his shield and crushing his skull. Korric, now gravely wounded from battle jumps below deck and mans the cannons, completely obliterating one of the kaitons in a single shot. With their forces crippled and disbanded, the ship dissipated and Master Therion’s visage stared back at them before they were returned to Oceana. The party took a well deserved rest after this, licking their wounds and preparing fort he next day.
